I have been wanting to go camping for forever and we have just not had the time till now. Unfortunately planning and executing a wedding has taken up all of my weekends since April when camping season arrived.
Last Friday, we had initially decided not to go camping, but at 11:30 pm we changed our minds. The cool Utah canyon night air was calling our names, and the Jeep was ready and eager to go on a night ride with the top down. We got our tent and some sleeping bags together and headed up the canyon. Our destination: East Canyon. We hoped that it wouldn't be as busy as Big or Little Cottonwood. We headed up Parley's Canyon because we thought it would be faster, boy were we wrong. After having to drive 30 minutes out of the way because of detours, we made it to the road that would get us to the canyon. We got to the campsite and all sites were full, thank you to some stake campout from Roy, UT. Besides being exhausted and the time approaching 12:45, we decided to press on and go up the canyon to see what campsites were on the other side of the mountain. (Did I mention that a random lightening storm started right as we entered the canyon?) So with lightnening coming down around us, we pressed on. As we were approaching the top of the mountain the lightening was getting worse and worse. We decided that the conditions had defeated us and retreated down the hill. As Bryce was turning the Jeep around it started to lightly sprinkle. It was nice and refreshing until someone above decided to really get their kicks and giggles and make it start pouring. We had to pull over again to put the Jeep top up, because we were getting soaked. Kudos to Bryce for getting it up in record time! :o)
There is not a happy ending to this story. We finally got home at a little after 2pm, wet and more exhausted than ever. I think of the Violent Femmes in times like these. They weren't kidding when they sang," Life is an adventure made for an adventurer"
We hope all are well. Talk to you soon.
